This is when a breast cancer is removed without removing the entire breast - also known as breast conserving surgery.

Skin cancer surgery

Lumpectomy and oncoplastic surgery

This is when a breast cancer is removed without removing the entire breast - also known as breast conserving surgery. This is the most desired type of breast cancer surgery due to the benefits it provide compared to a mastectomy. However this will need to be done with expert skills in order to obtain best oncological and cosmetic results. Surgeons who has had training and expertise in oncoplastic breast surgery are able to achieve the best results and Dr Chandika has expertise in various types of oncoplastic breast surgery. These include filling the defect with local flaps or re-arrangement of breast tissue by various techniques.

Simple mastectomy

This is where the entire breast tissue is removed together with the skin. In general, this is necessary when the area of cancer is too big to allow breast conserving surgery or when previous breast radiotherapy has been given and breast reconstruction is not desired.

Skin and nipple sparing mastectomy

This is where the entire breast tissue is removed but the overlying skin with to without the nipple is preserved. In general, this is necessary when the area of cancer is too big to allow breast conserving surgery or when previous breast radiotherapy has been given and breast reconstruction is desired.

Breast reconstruction (implant based)

When the entire breast tissue is removed but the skin is preserved, implant based reconstruction can be done to restore the breast shape.

When large breasts cause significant symptoms, breast reduction can help relieve these symptoms. Breast reduction surgery requires advanced surgical skills to achieve the desired results.

Male gynaecomastia

Excess amount of breast tissue causing enlargement of the breast is called gynaecomastia. This sometimes can be painful and many males do not like the appearance of enlarged breasts. Surgical removal of excess breast tissue can be an effective way of managing this.

Benign breast diseases

Benign breast disease comprise majority of consultations as they are extremely common. Dr Chandika has expertise in managing these conditions such as fibroadenoma, nipple related problems, breast abscesses and accessory breast tissue.

Laparoscopic hernia surgery

Hernia surgery comprises a big part of Dr Chandika’s practice. He has expertise in a range of hernia surgeries such as groin(inguinal/femoral) hernia, umbilical hernia, epigastric hernia and incisional hernia. He performs laparoscopic surgery (“key hole surgery”) to treat majority of hernias unless the hernia needs to be treated by open surgery due to various reasons.

Laparoscopic gall bladder surgery

Also called laparoscopic cholecystectomy, is one of the commonest surgical procedures performed by Dr Chandika. This may be done as a planned procedure or as an emergency procedure when gall stones cause acute symptoms.
